Senegal Introduction
Senegal covers an area of 196,700 square kilometers and is located in western Africa. It borders Mauritania to the north by the Senegal River, Mali to the east, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The coastline is about 500 kilometers long, and the Gambia forms an enclave in southwestern Sierra Leone. The southeast is a hilly area, and the middle and east are semi-desert areas. The terrain is slightly inclined from east to west. The rivers all flow into the Atlantic Ocean. The main rivers include the Senegal River and the Gambia River, and the lakes include Lake Gael. It has a tropical steppe climate. Senegal, the full name of the Republic of Senegal, is located in western Africa. From left to right, they are green, yellow, and red. There is a green five-pointed star in the middle of the yellow rectangle. Green symbolizes the country's agriculture, plants and forests, yellow symbolizes abundant natural resources, red symbolizes the blood of martyrs fighting for independence and freedom; green, yellow, and red are also traditional pan-African colors. The green five-pointed star symbolizes freedom in Africa. The population is 10.85 million (2005). The official language is French, and 80% of people in the country speak Wolof. 90% of residents believe in Islam. |
